Talia Osteen's feature directorial debut, a raucous and poignant comedy, SEX APPEAL premiered on HULU in 2022. It stars Margaret Cho, Fortune Feimster, Paris Jackson, Mika Abdalla and Jake Short. Her episodic television directing debut came shortly after with two episodes of GROWNISH for ABC Signature and Freeform.
Talia is a fellow of Paul Feig’s Powderkeg Fuse Directing Incubator Program where she wrote and directed her short film THE SHABBOS GOY, which has been celebrated at festivals including Just For Laughs, the Austin Film Festival, the Florida Film Festival and more. She is now developing a feature adaptation with Feig Co.
The multi-hyphenate got her start in the industry as an actress, starring in 5 national TV series before her passion for storytelling prompted her to move behind the camera. She graduated from USC's Cinema-Television Production program and went on to direct feature documentary, BLINDSIDED (HBO). Talia then honed her skills on the producing side, where she grew to become Head of Development and Production for NYC-based Overnight Films (MACHETE, THE LUCKY ONES, BLACK SWAN).
Talia is also an established musician whose band The Wellspring toured with Pete Yorn & Ben Kweller. They released 5 albums and composed scores for Bravo/Netflix dramatic series IMPOSTERS and features COFFEE TOWN (HBO/CollegeHumor) & SLOW LEARNERS (IFC/Netflix).
Talia's breadth of industry experience is reflected in her filmmaking. As a queer Jewish woman, she approaches her work across genres with a unique perspective that challenges conventions and subverts expectations.
Currently, her development slate includes: 8 DAYS, a dramatic series with showrunner Arika Mittman (LA BREA, THE IRRATIONAL) at NBC with Universal TV, and LAVENDER MENACE, a one-hour series she co-created with Sara Hess (HOUSE OF THE DRAGON, ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK) at ABC Signature with Kerry Washington producing. Talia is attached to direct a diverse range of feature films, including romantic comedies MY EX-WIFE’S WEDDING (Rebelle Media) and 48 HR FIANCEE (Fierce Baby Productions), satirical science fiction THE ONE (Aperture Media), dark comedy YOUTH IN ASIA (Rearview Pictures), and family dramedy BIRDIE & MAE (42 Entertainment).
