The Student Festival of Slavic Films in Warsaw is a three-day event organized in cooperation with the University of Warsaw, showcasing the cinematography of Western and Southern Slavic countries. Morning lectures held at the University of Warsaw will be led by academics specializing in the culture of the region, while evening screenings of student short films will take place at Kino Wisła in Warsaw. The primary goal of the event is to build relationships and support cultural exchange between Slavic countries, as well as to create a space for student exchange of ideas and for exploring the diversity of film traditions. The media patron of the event is Radio Nowy Świat.

In this pioneering edition, we will invite filmmakers from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, and Poland. Students will be able to submit their films to the festival via the FilmFreeway platform. The creators of the selected productions will be invited to attend the festival in person. After the screenings, short Q&A sessions with the filmmakers will be held.

The main target audience of the Student Festival of Slavic Films consists of adults interested in cinema, culture, and contemporary artistic phenomena in Slavic countries. A significant portion of the audience will be students of the University of Warsaw (the festival’s co-organizer), particularly those studying humanities and social sciences (such as Slavic studies, cultural studies, and international relations).

An important part of the audience will also be residents of Warsaw, including individuals actively participating in the city’s cultural life, interested in discovering cinematography little known in Poland and seeking film events with an educational and international profile. As the festival is international in nature, we also expect to attract members of the Slavic diaspora living in Poland.

Thanks to the diversity of the program (morning lectures, evening screenings, meetings with students from film schools), the festival aims to reach both audiences with an academic and expert profile and a broader public interested in developing cultural competencies and discovering niche and artistic cinema.
