Join us for an evening of eye-opening entertainment as we celebrate the art of truly independent cinema in Charlotte, North Carolina and showcase the very best of original short films from around the Carolinas and beyond!

Recognizing the contributions of independent filmmakers from all around the world, with a strong emphasis on locally and regionally produced short films, the Stranger Days Independent Film Festival strives to build community and establish positive connections by offering an outlet to artists often overlooked by the mainstream and providing viewers with an interactive experience in a diverse environment that is both welcoming and inclusive for all people.

The event will feature over six hours of film screenings, special Q&A segments with attending filmmakers, an awards ceremony honoring the very best in show, and a fully-interactive film mixer afterparty featuring a full bar, hookah lounge, and fun, friendly, inclusive environment.

All award winners will receive an official award certificate, with the grand prize winner of "Best in Show" also receiving a custom-engraved trophy.

Winners will be selected for the following categories:
- Best in Show (overall best picture)
- Best Genre Shorts (Horror, Comedy, Drama, etc.)
- Best Short Documentary
- Best International Short (filmed outside the USA)
- Best Regional Short (filmed in NC/SC, by NC/SC filmmakers)
- Best LGBT Short (directed/written by and/or focused on LGBT issues)
- Viewers' Choice Award (as voted on by attendees)

SHORT FILMS PREFERRED.
We mostly showcase short films (no more than 21 minutes in length). While we do accept a few features each year, we cannot accept many. This is due to time constraints set by the venue.

INDEPENDENT FILMS ONLY.
This is a showcase of independent films. No major studio/major distribution films need apply.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE OR ENGLISH SUBTITLES ONLY.
All films must be in English, or otherwise be fully subtitled in English.

NO REFUNDS. NO RETURNS. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Once a film has been accepted, it cannot be withdrawn from competition. No refunds of any submission fees will be refunded for any reason, and no submitted materials will be returned for any reason. No exceptions.

Submission to the Stranger Days Independent Film Festival will be considered to be an acknowledgement of and agreement to all film festival rules, and grants the SDIFF full authorization to use the submitted film for any/all screening and promotional purposes. SDIFF reserves the right to reject any film for any reason. Selection and awards are chosen by the awards committee and their decisions are final.

  • I very much enjoyed working with this festival, and am so thankful to have had the chance to work with so many great people, and give everyone a chance to show off such amazing work from the world of indie film, Although I am rather biased, seeing as how I work here, I seriously can't say enough about how great everyone involved was - from the venue to the crew to the overwhelming amount of filmmakers in attendance. You all made all the hard work worth it. Thank you all so much, and I can't wait to do it all again next year!

  • Although we weren't fortunate enough to be able to attend this film festival, just to be a part of such a magnificent line-up of short film movie magic from around the world is an honuor we won't soon forget! We were lucky enough to screen our proof-of-concept there this year... I cannot bloody wait to return with the full feature version soon! Definitely a festival to keep your eyes on and submission alerts open to!!!

Big Fandom is just starting out, so it's a smaller con compared to others I've been to, but that resulted in a more one-on-one feeling with the attendees. I met many local filmmakers and enjoyed the screenings.
