Steven B. Newman is an award-winning screenwriter, filmmaker, novelist, and retired U.S. Army Special Forces (Green Beret) veteran. A two-time 2026 Save the Cat! Screenplay Challenge Top 25 finalist, he is the founder of Origin Works – Film. Print. Voice. AI., an independent creative studio focused on original storytelling across film, print, voice, and emerging AI-assisted cinematic development.
Steven’s work blends authentic human drama with action, myth, history, comedy, and thought-provoking science fiction. His stories explore courage, sacrifice, identity, memory, and the resilience of ordinary people when confronted by extraordinary circumstances.
His feature screenplays include The Shaman, Summer of ’71, Origin Unknown, Desert Ghost, Runnin’ Moon, and Incognegro: Let the Gods Sort It Out. The Shaman and Summer of ’71 were both selected for the 2026 Save the Cat! Screenplay Challenge Top 25, with Steven appearing as the only writer with two scripts on the published list.
Steven is also the author of The Night Eagles Saga, including The Night Eagles Soared and Burnt Yellow and Red, along with the nonfiction works On Screenwriting and On Creation.
His films and screenplays have placed in or been recognized by the Beverly Hills Film Festival, Save the Cat! Screenplay Challenge, Cowpokes International Film Festival, GI Film Festival, Houston Comedy Film Festival, Military Script Showcase, Final Draft Big Break, and other competitions. He is also a past winner of the Veterans in Media & Entertainment / Lionsgate Pitchfest II.
A graduate of Columbia College with a B.S. in Business Administration and Watkins College of Art with an MFA in Film, Steven also holds a Certificate of Mastery in Digital Cinema Production from Oklahoma City Community College, where he studied under Oscar-winning producer Gray Frederickson.
Through Origin Works, Steven is building a body of work rooted in emotional truth, cinematic scale, and the belief that story remains the foundation of every meaningful creative technology.
