The South Sound Experimental Film Fest is a curation of experimental short films from local artists in the Pacific Northwest. We began in the South Sound region of Washington state. Our aim is to provide a community for the consistent exploration and development of the creative potentialities of the growing medium. Our attempt is to platform film-makers who may otherwise get pushed to the fringe due to identity, insufficient resources, or “quality” of technique.

Our first film festival launched on November 12th, 2021 in collaboration with the Northwest Film Forum. As a partner, SSEFF was able to contribute to a vast international network of ambiguity, experimentation, new filmic vocabulary and contemporary hybridity within the usage, development, and screening of film.

It is our intention to present northwest cinephiles with a wider lens to look through in hopes of finding a multiplicity of voices from our region.

S.S.E.F.F (South Sound Experimental Film Fest) is actively seeking submissions for its second-year run. We ask that submissions be from artists local to the PNW and are no longer than 30 minutes. There is no restrictions for format, although films must be able to be digitized for projections.

What are we looking for? BIPOC film-makers, radical documentation pertaining to the Pacific Northwest region, unconventional or hand-crafted film making and films diverse in their narratives and/or techniques.

Submission deadline is October 1st, 2022.

We ask $6.00 per submission to help with festival costs. All film-makers whose films are selected will be paid.

For a fee waiver please email: southsoundfilmfest@gmail.com

Selections will be made by October 31st.

  • One of my favorite festival experiences. The organizers are so friendly and genuinely care about the filmmakers that are selected. It felt like a labor of love and I admire that greatly.

    Highly recommend this one!
