Sophie Hampson (Ngāti Huri, Raukawa, she/her) is a Te Whanaganui-a-Tara based multidisciplinary filmmaker who has recently completed her Master of Fine Arts (Creative Practice) in Film at Victoria University of Wellington. Sophie creates films using a kaupapa Māori methodology, valuing narratives that explore the ins-and-outs of human relationships.
Recently, Sophie was the writer & director of WASHED UP, the winner of Best Challenge Film, Best Script, and Best Use of Prop for the Misty Flicks Film Festival Challenge 2025. Sophie was also the producer of SPEED DATING, winner of the 2025 Wairarapa 50 Hour Film Project. In 2023, Sophie worked as the producer and director of photography on SHELF LIFE, the winner of the 2023 New Zealand International Youth Silent Film Festival.
