Sofie Dieu has a Bachelor in Textile Design and Sculpture. In 2016, she graduated from Montpellier III University with a Master in Visual Art and Contemporary Practice. She currently teaches design theory at Monash University.
Sofie's collaborations include working with the Black Dog Institute of Sydney, Multicultural Women Victoria, as well as local councils and galleries across Australia. Her major projects include Longing for Home (2019-2022), Sacred Plants, Our Ancestors' Legacy (2022-2023) involving the immigrant and refugee women community around Melbourne. Her ink painting, photo and video exhibitions have toured Australia and France.
In 2022, she was one of the few artists selected to visually interpret composer Michael Sollis' interpretation with the Griffyn Ensemble of Canberra of Ara, a short musical piece inspired by the Southern hemisphere constellations. This project was supported by the Creative Australia's fund for Arts Projects. In 2023, she became the recipient of the highly coveted Creative Victoria's grant program, the Creative Project Fund, for her project Our Plants, Our Heritage. In 2024, she won the Encouragement Award of the University of South Queensland Biennale Art Award for her film Ara Made of Stardust.
Sofie is a multi-art prizes and award finalist including the Percivals, the Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize, the John Leslie Art Prize, and the Ravenswood Women Art Prize. She is regularly invited to take part in residency programs in Australia and overseas. Her work has been published internationally and can be found in private and public collections around Europe and Australia.
