dBs Berlin is once again showcasing the artistic diversity among its students. Our yearly Signals event is a whole week of film screenings, live electronic music performances and innovation presentations at Funkhaus Berlin.

This public event will take place over four days, 20-23rd May from 15:00 - 21:00 daily. Full programme of performances and films screenings will be available soon. The invite-only Film Awards ceremony takes place the week before on Friday 17th May, at Refugio Berlin. On Tuesday 21st May there will be a special screening, Q&A and cocktails with the final year students presenting their final, major projects.

Special Awards:
Awards will also be given in recognition of overall excellence in students' studies & creative practice, such as the Golden Gorilla (most adventurous/risky/audacious/bold filmmaker), the Spirit Award (personifying the dBs Spirit of collaboration & community), year-based awards and others to be announced.

1. Film submissions for Signals is open to students of dBs Berlin only (both music & film).
2. Films must be submitted via FilmFreeway for screening and awards consideration.
3. The awards are only open to students of dBs Film, with the exception of Best Original Music (which must be a dBs Music student), Best Music Video (if made by a dBs Music student) and Best Sound (if completed by a dBs Music student).
4. For consideration for an award, students can submit any film they have made in the last academic year (i.e. after September 17th, 2018).
5. To be considered for a specific award the relevant category must be selected (select as many as relevant).
6. All films submitted will be screened during Signals, the week following the Awards Ceremony. A student may submit a film for screening that was created at any point in their studies at dBs Berlin (for example, a first year film from a third year student), but if made outside of the last academic year will not be part of the competition.
7. Students of dBs Music Berlin are welcome to submit films for screening during Signals but not for competition, unless a music video.
8. All films must be in English or have English subtitles.
9. Uncompleted films may be submitted now as long as the final version is uploaded by Friday 10th May (exceptions for later uploads may be granted, but we cannot guarantee the film will be eligible for an award).
10. Each major award will have specialist judges invited to select the winner from a shortlist of nominees. Nominees will be shortlisted by the Signals organising committee.
11. Applicants are solely responsible for obtaining all necessary rights and permissions for third-party materials included in the film, including but not limited to music, trademarks, logos, copyrights, and other intellectual property rights. dBs Berlin expressly disclaims all liability or responsibility for any violations of the foregoing.
