Welcome! We are Short Shorts Film Festival, based in Brooklyn, New York. We are all about celebrating hot summer days with friends and showcasing the exceptional filmmakers from our community and beyond! We believe that short form filmmaking is the essence of independent cinema, and our goal is to elevate it as a medium in and of itself. Good things come in small packages, and after all, life is short.

We accept four categories of films: Shorts (under 20 minutes), Animated Shorts (under 20 minutes), Short-shorts (under 3 minutes) and New York Shorts (under 20 minutes). We encourage submissions from any and every genre, style, and form as long as they are short.

Selected films will be screened at our 4th annual Short Shorts Film Festival in Brooklyn, NY, to a panel of judges who will determine the winners in real time. This year’s festival takes place in August, so wearing short shorts is encouraged but not mandatory.

Awards & Prizes

There will be three awards given out- "Best Short," and "Best Short-short", chosen by a panel of judges, and a "People's Choice" award chosen by our audience.

Rules & Terms

Shorts must be no longer than 20 minutes and Short shorts must not exceed 3 minutes.

In all categories narrative, experimental and documentary work is allowed. Music videos may be submitted if they can arguably fit into one of these genres, beyond the music video form.

Tasteful nudity is allowed, but please do not submit any pornography or offensive sexual content.

    These folks are very cool, and have curated a very cool festival. I'm happy to have shown my film CATHY DOESN'T KNOW there, and everyone I met and talked to were super nice. I'm encouraged to make another film before next year just so I could submit and possibly attend again! But if I didn't I'd go anyway because they picked a lot of interesting films to watch. Recommend.
