Sheida Kiran is a British-Turkish-Iranian documentary filmmaker, composer and BAFTA Connect member based in London. Driven by her passion for ethnographic storytelling, she focuses on documenting women’s issues in Turkey and Iran. Her student film 'Harvesting Our Tea' (2021) was selected for the One World Media Global Short Docs Forum, and later was commissioned by BBC Our World in 2022. The film was shortlisted for a student BAFTA and Grierson award, screened at Bertha Doc House and BAFTA, and was awarded Best Short Documentary in the LA Women's Voices Now Film Festival and Porto Femme Film Festival. She has also received funding from Help Musicians and Bert Jansch foundation to record the film score to this film.
She has since been reporting on the earthquakes that happened in Turkey since March 2023 and her current affairs film Turkey's Earthquake: Those Who Stayed is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer. This film was supported by OSBD Documentary Film Fund and DOK Leipzig Short n' Sweet.
Through her experience of scoring for film, she often uses music as a tool to build narratives, and composes the music to her films. She is currently performing the music of her latest documentary with the orchestral musical project 'Entropies' across London concert venues. They are recording the project with funding support received by the Bert Jansch Foundation in 2023.
