Semih Doğan is an Istanbul-based filmmaker and screenwriter whose work sits at the intersection of observation and emotion. A university graduate in Sociology, he brings to his films a quiet attentiveness to human behavior the gestures left unnoticed, the words left unsaid. His passion for visual storytelling led him to pursue intensive film education at a prestigious private institution, where he refined his craft in screenwriting and directing.
His professional path has been shaped by a close creative partnership with award-winning Turkish director Hasan Tolga Pulat. Working alongside Pulat across multiple projects, Doğan has absorbed the intricacies of narrative construction and production, developing a distinct voice rooted in authenticity and restraint.
In 2023, Doğan directed his first short film, "İkinci Plan" (The Second Plan), a work that hinted at his ability to find depth in the overlooked. He later joined the production team of a feature film directed by Hasan Tolga Pulat, which went on to receive critical acclaim at the 2025 Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, winning awards for Best Music and Best Actor. The film is set for nationwide release on February 27, 2026.
Beyond his own projects, Doğan is deeply invested in nurturing new talent. He works alongside Hasan Tolga Pulat at Kadraj Akademi, an Istanbul-based acting school founded by Pulat that specializes in on-screen performance. There, he helps guide aspiring actors in discovering their authentic voices work that feeds directly into his own understanding of character and story.
At the core of Doğan's practice is a love for screenwriting. He is drawn to stories that carry weight narratives that reveal what tends to remain invisible, that give shape to emotions people are often afraid to name. For him, cinema is not simply entertainment; it is a way of seeing, a means of connection, a space where unspoken truths can finally breathe.
He is currently developing a new feature film, "The Language of War" (Savaşın Dili), a drama set during World War II that explores the fragility of family and the silences that war leaves behind.
