Film Gainesville wants to bring the best Sci Fi short films from around the world to North Central Florida! If your film is 20 minutes or less and in the genre we want to see your cinematic masterpiece. Whether its traditional, vintage, historical, environmental, VFX heavy, Space Opera, or spooky, if it's a science fiction film, we want to see it.

Films will be screened over two days at Santa Fe College in the newly renovated 236 seat, state of the art Fine Arts Theater - films will also be live streamed. Covid restrictions may apply.

Additionally, we will host a local art show at the venue and online during the event.

For the past 10 years Film Gainesville has run a very successful 48 hour film competition. We have screened over 150 films and hosted hundreds of local competitors. Now we want to bring the best Sci-Fi shorts to our amazing city.

An adequate number of entries must be reached per individual genre category - limited and mislabeled entries will be moved to an appropriate category or the traditional category.

Films must be 20 minutes or less to qualify and must fit into the genre of "Science Fiction". Sci Fi Gainesville only accepts online submissions in h.264, mp4, prores422 (.mov). Films that are not produced in English must be translated and have English subtitles burned in. The festival will not screen films that promote racism, sexism or are exploitative. Once films are submitted no refunds will be given. Submission does not guarantee screening. Films may not contain copyrighted imagery, sound or music unless adequate rights have been obtained. Documentation must be provided to the festival upon request.

  • An excellent festival. Great communication. The festivals website looked amazing with lots of information about the fantastic range of films. I really appreciated being able to watch the films online as being in England I was unable to get to the festival. Delighted to win best Female/Underrepresented film maker.
