Saurin's journey to becoming a screenwriter has been far from conventional; he has always been a natural storyteller at heart. Growing up as a closeted queer Indian kid in a conservative environment in Texas during the '80s and '90s, Saurin found solace in filling notebooks with movie ideas and creating imaginary worlds.
Despite his dream to pursue his passion in the film industry, his traditional Indian family and cultural expectations held him back for years. Saurin eventually found the courage to push past the limits imposed on him by his own fears, familial expectations, and cultural barriers, and pursued his passion for screenwriting and filmmaking with fresh, raw creativity. Recently, he has also bravely shared his journey through bipolar disorder and recovery from substance abuse.
After studying Foreign Service at Georgetown University, he pursued a career in media with a master's degree in Media Studies from the New School. While working in Television Development at IMG (now WME), Saurin transitioned into a Branded Content & Marketing career due to the Great Recession in '08.
Saurin has honed his writing skills through extensive training with the Gotham Writers' Workshop, Roadmap Writers, and The Rocaberti Salon & Fellowship. His sci-fi script for Moksha has been recognized as a finalist at Slamdance, the Richmond International Film Festival, Big Apple Film Festival Screenplay Competition, the Nashville Film Festival Screenwriting Competition, The Script2Comic contest, and been awarded over 90+ awards and accolades at global film festivals and screenplay competitions. In the arena of sci-fi, Moksha has been awarded Best Screenplay by The Geneva International Science in Fiction Screenplay Awards, Los Angeles International Sci-Fi Film Festival, and The Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival (MiSciFi).
His current focus is on writing a commissioned script for a psychological horror set in India in the vein of Suspiria and Midsommar; collaborating with producer/director Justine Raczkiewicz. Saurin's taste lies within the unconventional and surreal, sweeping and profound - covering the genres of Sci-Fi, Horror, Psychological Thriller, Fantasy/Adventure, Drama, and Historical Epics.
