Sana Zahra Jafri is a filmmaker based in Pakistan, whose work focuses on dissecting social, political, and gender binaries, particularly through the lens of the female South Asian experience. She is a fellow of Film Independent Global Media Makers, L’usage du monde Paris, and the Rotterdam Producers Lab.
Jafri is the co-producer and casting director for Joyland (2022), directed by Saim Sadiq, which won the Cannes Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard category and was shortlisted for an Academy Award. Additionally, she is the writer and producer of Yasmeen’s Element, directed by Amman Abbasi, which premiered at the 2024 SXSW Festival and received critical acclaim as a standout Pakistani film.
Currently, Jafri is in development on her debut feature film as a writer and director. She has participated in several prestigious residencies in support of the project, which is slated to begin production in 2026.
