Sakinah Iman is a Caribbean-American Award Winning Filmmaker, Singer-Songwriter, Award Winning Actress and Certified Health Educator of Jamaican and Garifuna decent, from Brooklyn, NY. For over a decade Sakinah has devoted her artistic abilities to creating art that engages audiences in sociopolitical change. Using theatre arts such as spoken word, comedy, drama, and music, Sakinah has traveled the world with award winning Educational Theater Company Catharsis Productions and Too Deep Entertainment, educating audiences of all ages on topics such as black/female empowerment, sexual assault/violence awareness and prevention, racial discrimination, social/self-awareness, and political activism.
As an independent Singer-Songwriter, Sakinah has headlined and showcased her original music off her debut EP Dun. at numerous venues in NYC from SOB’s and DROM to MajorStage and Ashford & Simpson’s Sugar Bar. Her most popular single to date, “Waiting Tables,” has made it to the “Top 40” charts at #35 on the streaming platform BandCamp and featured in an Off-off Broadway musical Buskers the Musical, where Sakinah was written into the play and invited to play herself for the show’s full run. Her EP Dun. currently has over 156 thousand streams in 57 countries on Spotify.
As a Filmmaker, Sakinah has produced, directed, and starred in multiple short films, of which, won 21 Best Short/Music Video Awards, selected and placed in a total of 52 film festivals worldwide, and nominated for “Best New Media & Experimental Film,” and “Best Performance, Comedy” by NewFilmmakers Los Angeles.
