SWAN PIWIFF 2024

We are West Australia’s own film festival dedicated to celebrating powerful women in film from all over Australia and around the world! Come for a fun session of networking and showcasing WA talent, supporting women in filmmaking, and sharing the love for all things film.

We’re all about celebrating the female perspective and creating a positive environment for interaction between legendary female filmmakers. We love to support emerging and indie filmmakers, especially nurturing Western Australia’s growing film industry.

We aim to –

-Provide networking opportunities to female filmmakers.
-Showcase the female perspective and talent in storytelling.
-Give a platform to indie female filmmakers.

Because of our female-focus, we require all submitted films to have two “above the line” persons identifying as female. “Above the line” roles refer to Writer, Director, or Producer. One person can fulfil two qualifying roles (i.e. Writer/Director, etc). If you have less than two persons among those roles, we may provide an exception if you also have two persons identifying as female among the roles of Editor, DOP, or Production Designer. Please email us if you intend to use this exception, or include it in your submission.

Please make sure to read through our festival rules prior to submitting your film.

WE ARE EXCITED TO OFFER A FEATURE FILM CATEGORY FOR 2024!

If you have less than two persons among those roles, we may provide an exception if you also have two persons identifying as female among the roles of Editor, DOP, or Production Designer. Please email us if you intend to use this exception, or include it in your submission. -All feature films must be over 30 minutes, but under 100 minutes.
-All films must have been completed after January 2022.
-Films with female leads may enter either the “Narrative Short Film” or the “Narrative Short Film with Female Lead” category, or both, but they will only be rewarded for one.
-All non-English language films must have English subtitles or be dubbed in English.
-All films must be uploaded by the filmmaker onto FilmFreeway or via a Vimeo link for judging.
-No refunds will be issued for any reason.

Additional Rules for our Australian Music Video Category:
-Our core rule of "2 above the line creatives must identify as female" is also observed for this category, with the addition of the musical artist counting as an above the line creative. Above the line = Director, Producer, Writer, or Artist.
-Music videos must be no longer than 10 minutes long.
-Must be made in Australia.

By submitting your film, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to the following terms:

Thank you so much for the team at SWAN Perth International Women in film festival. Although we weren't able to attend we are absolutely thrilled to have taken out Best Australian Short Film for our film Chesters. Can't wait for next time!

We were super excited to have our film "If you need me, I will fly" selected and receive an award. Even though we didn't attend the festival, communication and updates on social media were excellent and made us feel as close to the festival audience as possible!

We were so happy to be selected for this festival in its first year, and even more excited when our film CONSUMED was chosen as Best International Short Film. Great communication throughout, we just wish Scotland was a little closer so we could've attended in person!
