The Smodcastle 37 Hour Film Challenge at Smodcastle Cinemas was an absolutely incredible experience from start to finish. The theater itself is something special, intimate, welcoming, a museum of indie artist, and clearly built with a deep love for film and the community around it. You can feel that this isn’t just a venue, but a space that truly celebrates independent storytelling and the people who create it.

From the moment we arrived, everything was thoughtfully run and incredibly supportive. The staff and organizers created an environment that felt encouraging rather than competitive, which made the entire experience even more meaningful. It’s rare to find a festival space where filmmakers and families feel equally valued, but Smodcastle managed to do exactly that.

Watching our film in that theater was a highlight in itself. The screen, the sound, and the energy in the room made every moment feel alive. There’s something about seeing your work in a space that respects and understands cinema that changes how you feel about what you’ve created.

More than anything, Smodcastle Cinemas feels like a place built on passion. It honors the spirit of filmmaking in a way that’s personal and genuine, and you can see that reflected in every detail, from the programming to the people who run it. It’s the kind of theater that reminds you why you fell in love with movies in the first place.

We left feeling inspired, grateful, and excited to come back. Not because of any outcome or result, but because places like this matter, and Smodcastle is absolutely one of them.

Love this place! Kevin smith and his crew are a group that care about filmmaking and the little guys, because that’s where they came from. Kevin couldn’t make it this year, but Ernie O’Donnell and his crew keep it going in style. Met some great people, and look forward to the next festival.
