From the creators and producers of the BIFA qualifying short comedy film festival Short Com (www.shortcom.org); SI-FAN is a genre-led arts festival (Fantasy; Horror, Sci-Fi, Gothic, Action-Thriller, Magical Realism) that debuted in Edinburgh at the end of November 2023 in Edinburgh and will return to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness at the end of April in 2024.

We are looking for the most exciting, fun, thought-provoking, shocking, spell binding and frightening short films from the genres within the gamut of the Fantastic spectrum. Live action and animation, documentary or fiction. Low budget to high-end production.

Best Script

Films ideally should be no longer than twenty minutes for extended narrative based shorts. There is no set minimum length and we have shown shorts under a minute.

Films must be released after October 2023. Try to be honest please.

Non-English language entries must contain English subtitles.

The filmmaker gives permission for SI-FAN to use images and footage of their film for the purposes of promoting SI-FAN events and marketing materials.

Submitting your film to SI-FAN does not mean your film will be selected for screening at SI-FAN events. Only selected films are screened in the SI-FAN programme.

A final disclaimer. Filmmakers are responsible for any copyrighted material and licensing rights of music within their film. SI-FAN cannot be held responsible for the promotion and distribution of materials that contain footage or music that does not have the required legal permissions.

Films with heavy A.I. usage will not be considered.

SI-FAN is under no obligation to screen films that do not satisfy the criteria set above.

    Great communication with the founder Christopher and a very strong and carefully curated programme. Felt excited to be part of Si-Fan this year as it’s the first genre-focused film festival to open in our country. We definitely need a festival like this here! 💗
