*Selected this year as one of 20 Great Film Festivals for First-Time Moviemakers by Moviemaker Magazine *

* Selected as one of the 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee by Moviemaker Magazine for 4 years in a row *

The Southeast New England Film Festival has established itself as one of the premier festivals in New England dedicated to giving life to independent cinema.

SENE is a very filmmaker-friendly festival with multiple parties and networking opportunities. All films, parties, brunches, events, panels and awards ceremonies are free to attending filmmakers and screenwriters.

Film Selection:
98% of selected films come from official submissions.
25% of submitted films were selected for screening last year.
Festival programmers (Phil Capobres & Don Farias) personally review every film submission.
Last year 50 films received jury or audience awards.

Film Scheduling:
Screening times are scheduled with an emphasis on avoiding conflicting programs which means a stronger audience for your film. No more than 2 film programs are scheduled to screen at the same time.
SENE accepts all film genres and categories and creates screenings to showcase them.

Festival Benefits:
Dedicated Q&A time for visiting filmmakers at their screening.
Ample opportunities to network with filmmakers, artists and musicians
Films not selected will still receive 2 free SENE Festival Film Passes (good for all film screenings)

Additional Screening Opportunities:
Films are eligible for multiple screenings as part of our traveling Limelight Series programming.

Films are eligible for over 30 jury awards and 20 audience awards
Selected films receive 3 All Access Passes to the festival and 3 additional tickets to their individual screening.
Films not selected will receive 2 free SENE Passes (good for all film screenings)

Films must be completed after December 31, 2018.

Overall Rating
  • SENE will forever hold a valuable place in my heart. My guests and I automatically felt comforted by their hospitality. I was first greeted by a complimentary meal with beer/wine during the “ the filmmakers luncheon," where I met a few good souls. After the award ceremony, SENE provided a hearty dinner/drinks which isn’t strangely offered by many festivals (or some version of that). This presented a natural opportunity for filmmakers to connect. Plus it’s a nice “thank you” for spending the time energy to make the trip. The programming was an eclectic mix of films which proposes an interesting view; you may not meet a long list of filmmakers falling into your genre, however the ones you do meet are quality. So potential filmmakers, please do your research and understand what you're attempting to gain. While the film rooms didn’t posses your usual theater settings, I found the entire setup very accessible and clear. I had ample time to watch the film blocks of interest & the venue offered plenty of parking. You could come and go as you please. At no point did the festival ever feel chaotic due to a dense schedule and as a result, the festival offered a uniquely relaxing experience. SENE’s warm meals, frosty drinks and inclusive vibes absolutely merits a submission.

    Response from festival:

Thank you, Presley. It was a pleasure to meet you. Thanks again for submitting your wonderful film to SENE.

  • Phil and Don are true cinephiles who have gone to incredible lengths with great thoughtfulness to make their festival fun, filmmaker-friendly, and community-friendly. Numbers were small since we're still in Covid-times, but to be able to celebrate our film "'Love'" IN-PERSON was huge, and the chance to network with other filmmakers and locals was extremely valuable. More than anything, it was an honor to be programmed alongside such excellent films! Thanks, Phil and Don!
