Having ran for a decade, submissions for Romford Film Festival have grown so high, we feel the need to create a Brand New Festival. Romford Short Film Festival will champion films under 30 minutes of length and show them in an East London multiplex on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September 2026

In addition to screenings of films, we’ll provide additional support for indie films that are struggling on the festival circuit through “therapy sessions” there will also be network opportunities each evening.

7 awards will be given to the best short films as judged by our Jury.

Best Short Film

Best Cinematography

Best Actor

Best Actress

Best Score

Best Editing

Jury Prize

Films screened must come with physical representation, our dates are transparent we will not screen a film unless someone is there to discuss the film with an audience.

Films submitted cannot be withdrawn because they are selected for other festivals, Romford Film Festivals have and continue to provide one of the best UK platforms for film makers looking to expand their journey into major international festivals.

We do not offer waivers.

There is no exclusion for films that have been featured at other film festivals, films currently available on streaming services may also be included.

We do not pay revenue shares to screen your film, if you submit your film don't ask for it the response may only hurt your feelings.

Filmmakers travelling from oversees are not paid for attending, Romford Film Festival prides itself on its Not For Profit status. However if filmmakers choose to attend, they will receive free festival tickets, be considered for awards (as will any submission) and will be part of a Q&A at the end of their film which is recorded, displayed on social media channels and sent to associated press.

We require a DCP to play your film, if you do not have one you have two options, expect it will play from a laptop in which case hit may show issues and sound will be of a pooper standard, or we can create you one for £50 which includes a pen drive to hold it. This isn’t an excuse to exploit filmmakers, however industry standard is a DCP, this ensures your film looks and sounds as good as it can.

We had a great experience submitting to Romford Short Film Festival and was impressed with the very clear and constant communications and updates. It is clear that they have done this for years and it ran like a well oiled machine. The curation of films was fantastic and I particularly enjoyed the very specially curated selection on Saturday and on the final session. Thank you to Spencer and team for having us, it was a dream come true to see our work shown on the big screen of the beautiful Lumiere Cinema in Romford. It was even more special to find out we had won an award so thank you for recognising our efforts. It’s been an honour.

The festival offered a solid platform. Great cinema, respectful and attentive audience and good organisation despite some incredible odds they faced. It was a pleasure to be part of it. The Q&A was one of the most in depth that I have done all festival season. And we're grateful for taking home the Best Use of Budget award.
