Romel Jean Pierre, born in 1993 in Port-au-Prince, discovered his passion for film through a personal project called Tele Ghetto. This TV show, based in the Haitian Ghetto, marked the beginning of his artistic exploration. Guided by the mentorship of Haitian multimedia artist Maksaens Denis, Romel honed his skills and found his unique voice.
He is not only the co-founder and producer of Tele Ghetto but has also worked internationally, such as at the Young Energies Summer Camp in Berlin in August 2012. His contributions have been recognized in various publications, including «les observateurs de France 24» and the magazine «Geo Ado».
His creativity transcends mediums, with art videos like "Al fét têt ou" being displayed at the Aruba Biennale in September 2012, and narrative documentaries like "Rèv ou / Dreams," created in collaboration with Roberto Gomez, winning awards at the PLURAL + Video Festival.
A significant collaboration occurred with French visual artist JR (TED prize winner 2011) in Haiti for the project Inside Out. This led to Romel's special guest appearance at the Tribeca Film Festival 2013.
Romel's focus on social and cultural issues, especially related to Haiti, has culminated in numerous video performances, including:
2012: Plezi Gede, Saw wè a se pa sa
2011: Rèv ou / Dreams, Al fét têt ou
2009: Tele Ghetto
His work has also been featured in a diverse array of exhibitions and events, such as:
2013: The European Week in Haiti, Cent pour cent numérique in Haiti, Fragmentation and Flux in the USA, and the Fowler Museum's Haiti In Extremis Exhibition.
2012: PLURAL + Video Festival in New York (Finalist), Fragmentation and Flux Haitian Film Series in the USA, Ayiti Miradas contemporànes at Aruba Biennale, and The European Week in Haiti.
2011: Transcultural Comptemporain Arts Forum and L'enarts in Port-au-Prince.
These achievements and contributions have solidified Romel Jean Pierre as a dynamic force in contemporary art. He uses his talents to create a dialogue, challenge perspectives, and promote understanding across cultures. His commitment to social justice and cultural insight makes him a standout figure in the international art scene, embodying the potential of art to inspire, connect, and transform.
