Roel Swierenga is the founder of the energy storytelling company Hansa Green Tour in The Netherlands, energy specialist and documentary filmmaker.
As director of Hansa Green Tour he organized road trip events in Europe (2011 - 2019) with electric and alternative energy vehicles. These events were first filmed for after movies and have become more professional over the years. The covid pandemic effectively made an end to these live road trip events and Roel Swierenga started to train himself in mobile filmmaking to create digital content.
In 2021 he started to make a first series of short films for film festivals. Both PUSHBACK (2021) and 48.000 Names (2022) won his first film awards. September 2023 he launched his 3rd documentary film Before the Oil (2023 - Norway), winning best short documentary awards at film festivals in LA, New York, Stockholm and Helsinki. New short documentary projects are scheduled in Scandinavia in 2025/2027. June 2026 his 4th and new short documentary DECARB (Finland) is ready to go into the film festival circuit. Next step is preparing for his first feature documentary roadtrip scheduled for February 2027.
