Robert Breedlove brings stories born from the Alaskan digital frontier - MMOs, tech, and the people who built early online culture. Filmmaking rooted in lived experience, blending character, chaos, and the rise of a world that changed everything.
Robert Breedlove and Surf City Productions is a filmmaker‑driven studio telling stories born from the late‑90s/early‑2000s Alaskan digital frontier - MMOs, tech, and the people who built early online culture. Our work is rooted in lived experience, blending character, chaos, and the rise of a world that reshaped how we connect.
Founded by writer/producer Robert Breedlove, Surf City’s mission is to capture the human side of the early internet - before social media, before smartphones, before the world realized what was coming. These are stories from the ground level: LAN cafes, dial‑up modems, EverQuest guild drama, the first digital economies, and the strange, brilliant, hilarious people who built the foundations of online culture without knowing they were making history.
Robert grew up inside this world. In the late 90s he opened and ran Surf City, an internet cafe in Alaska that accidentally became a hub for competitive gaming, digital item trading, and the early MMO boom. What started as a small-town tech outpost became a front‑row seat to the birth of online identity, digital community, and the first generation of kids who lived part of their lives on the internet.
Those experiences shaped the voice of Surf City Productions: authentic, character‑driven, ensemble‑focused, and grounded in real places and real people.
Today, Surf City is building a pipeline that blends West Virginia production with Atlanta & Pittsburg post, leveraging local crews, regional tax incentives, and a micro‑budget philosophy that prioritizes story, performance, and atmosphere. The studio is currently developing a proof‑of‑concept short based on the feature screenplay Surf City, a coming‑of‑age dramedy set against the rise of early online culture.
Robert’s background as a systems architect and producer informs the studio’s approach: clear workflows - disciplined communication - respect for creative integrity and a commitment to building sustainable, repeatable production models
Surf City Productions isn’t chasing nostalgia. It’s documenting a moment in time that shaped an entire generation—the last analog kids who became the first digital adults. The stories are funny, chaotic, heartfelt, and deeply human. They’re about friendship, identity, found family, and the strange magic of watching the world change in real time.
Whether through shorts, features, or serialized storytelling, Surf City Productions is dedicated to capturing the emotional truth of a world on the edge of transformation. These are stories that could only come from lived experience - and they’re stories we’re ready to bring to the screen.

Founded Alaska’s first public gaming cafe with a hard-wired line... third in the nation. Once ran a raid, pulled espresso, and closed a PayPal sale in the same five-minute window.
“Legacy isn’t what you build. It’s what survives when the power goes out.”
“Don’t mistake chaos for failure. Sometimes it’s just Surf City on a Tuesday.”
