Ever since his father introduced him to “Pulp Fiction” at the tender age of 13, it ignited a passion for cinema within Ricardo that would forever shape his life’s path.
Ricardo’s journey began in the 6th grade when he started acting. However, it was not till during his high school that he truly found his calling. His drama teacher, Mr. Shary, consistently gave him B’s on his performances, prompting Ricardo to seek help in “connecting with the characters.”
Determined to improve, Ricardo took matters into his own hands. He wrote his own script and performed it, to his astonishment, receiving an A. This breakthrough fueled his passion, and he continued to write his own scenes throughout high school, discovering that he connected more deeply with the material when he created it himself.
Despite his desire to pursue filmmaking, financial constraints prevented him from attending college. Undeterred, Ricardo enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California. During his time in the Navy, he seized an opportunity to make three short films. Launching his production company Modern Tales Productions and creating his first short film “Broad.”
“Broad” is a thrilling film about a woman who finds herself in a life-altering situation when she encounters a group of filmmakers. Not long after Ricardo made his second short, “The Story of Us,” is a silent romance that explores the complexities of love and tragedy. Ricardo’s determination and creativity shone throughout in this film. (Ricardo wrote and filmed this short while he was recovering from a concussion.)
Ricardo’s final film he made while in the Navy was titled, “Room 146,” a horror thriller that delves into the dark side of human nature. It follows an FBI agent who will go to any lengths to obtain the information he needs, pushing the boundaries of morality and the law. “Room 146” did not have an easy preproduction, due to Covid. But after many delays, actor dropouts, and even getting kicked out of the hotel we were scheduled to shoot at. They made the film, receiving widespread acclaim at film festivals and sparked interest in young filmmaker Ricardo Garcia.
In 2024 Ricardo finally began production on his nearly three year pre production passion project of, “Pathogen - A Dead Space Fan Film.” This film pays homage to the beloved video game series “Dead Space.” As well as a love letter to fatherhood. “Pathogen” has become a highly anticipated release, and fans of the series are eagerly anticipating its arrival.
Ricardo has begun to add more films under “Modern Tales Productions”. The latest release being Thair Ramirez’s “Family Affair” a comedy horror about a man going through the strangest events while meeting his girlfriend’s family for the first time.
