In 2004, with a shoestring budget, Rene wrote and directed the romantic comedy film "siete mujeres, 1 homosexual y Carlos". The film was shot in Tijuana on 35mm format and starred Mauricio Ochmman, Adriana Fonseca, Luis Felipe Tovar, and Rogelio Guerra. It was distributed in Mexico by 20th Century Fox and went on to become the fourth largest grossing Mexican film that year. In 2009, his film "Recién Cazado", released by Warner Bros. Pictures, a romantic comedy that soon became a favorite amongst Mexicans with nearly a million tickets sold and went on to gross almost 40 million pesos. It grabbed the second spot in the Mexican box office and became the number one DVD nationwide in 2010. It was a star studded cast of Jaime Camil, Gabriela Vergara, Otto Sirgo and Angélica Aragón.
Most recently he filmed a short - Cara a Cara - which became an official selection at the Morelia International Film Festival; the most prestigious film festival in México. In 2016 he wrote, directed and produced the Mexican comedy "lo más sencillo es complicarlo todo" which once again ended up in the top 10 Mexican box office and was eventually licensed by Netflix.
Rene has finish post-production on the drama "Tijuana I Love You". He is scheduled to direct his first English speaking feature Freddy's Fabulous Food written by comedian Paul Rodriguez. Furthermore, he is developing several other films including the historic biographical drama "Juana de Asbaje", and "Honeymoon in Tijuana", "To Hear From You" and "how to catch a millionaire"
