Ramaskrik Film Festival is a horror film festival over five days. The festival takes place at Oppdal Kulturhus, at four great movie screens with a total capacity of 650. In addition to film screenings, we have several film introductions by Norwegian and international guests, work-in-progress presentations and short films, and a lot of social events and venues for networking. We are proud to have a very loyal and dedicated audience from all over the country. 2026 is our 16th edition of Ramaskrik. It will take place 14 - 18. October 2026.

Oppdal is one of the largest municipalitys of Mid-Norway, located in the mountains between the two great mountain regions Dovrefjell and Trollheimen. More than 55% of the area is national park or protected landscape. The place has a population figure of 7000 people. Oppdal has the largest sheep ranges in the country with approximately 45,000 sheep in the mountains each summer.

You might know the region better as the location for the Norwegian horror film Troll Hunter. Oppdal is just north of where the trolls live

Ramaskrik filmfestival screens about 40 feature and 20 short films and our goal is to present new films from all over the world. A nice combination of films with cinema realease and hidden gems that you must attend to be able to watch.

Since 2024, Ramaskrik Film Festival is a competetive member of the MÉLIÈS INTERNATIONAL FESTIVALS FEDERATION (http://www.melies.org) and will award the Méliès d'argent to the best European short film at the festival. This film will then in turn compete for the Méliés d'or.

Ramaskrik requires all filmmakers to declare any significant use of AI in their submissions. This includes, but is not limited to:

* Use of AI to generate imagery, dialogue, or sound design.
* Use of AI to simulate performances by real or fictional individuals.
*Use of AI tools in scripting, editing, or post-production.

We understand the limitations of verification and will, to a large extent, rely on filmmakers’ honest self reporting. This approach aligns with industry wide norms at this stage of AI’s integration into creative practices.

Ramaskrik is a special place. It's not a huge festival, but the audience travels to be there, which means a solid turnout to all screenings and a very dedicated (and constantly growing) crowd. We didn't have a chance to participate physically in the festival this year, but I've gone before and has always been taken very good care of by the amazing organizers. Highly recommended among the nordic genre fests.

  • It’s always a pleasure to be part of the festival, and this year even more so with our short film "The Quinta’s Ghost," which has won the Méliès d’argent for Best European Fantastic Short Film. Thank you for everything!

Ramaskrik was one of the best experiences I've had as a filmmaker. The festival was super communicative, made me feel very safe and welcome, cozy location and great audience. It was a real privilege for my short film Daughter to have its world premiere there. Will absolutely submit again and attend. Highly recommend. Thanks Ramaskrik!!!

    Response from festival:

Thanks! It was an absolute honour to host the world premiere of Daughter!

  • From submission to selection communication is fantastic, and they are very clear about the kind of films they're after. A jam-packed programme and a team that are extremely enthusiastic - it's what you want! We were so happy to have POCKETMAN screen there in 2024.
