Ramaskrik Film Festival is a horror film festival over four days. The festival takes place at Oppdal Kulturhus, at two great movie screens with a total capacity of 540. In addition to film screenings, we have several film introductions by Norwegian and international guests, work-in-progress presentations and short films. We are proud to have a very loyal and dedicated audience from all over the country. 2024 is our 14th edition of Ramaskrik. It will take place 17 - 20. October 2024.

Oppdal is one of the largest municipalitys of Mid-Norway, located in the mountains between the two great mountain regions Dovrefjell and Trollheimen. More than 55% of the area is national park or protected landscape. The place has a population figure of 7000 people. Oppdal has the largest sheep ranges in the country with approximately 45,000 sheep in the mountains each summer.

You might know the region better as the location for the Norwegian horror film Troll Hunter. Oppdal is just north of where the trolls live

Ramaskrik filmfestival screens about 30 feature and 20 short films and our goal is to present new films from all over the world. A nice combination of films with cinema realease and hidden gems that you must attend to be able to watch.

Since 2024, Ramaskrik Film Festival is a competetive member of the MÉLIÈS INTERNATIONAL FESTIVALS FEDERATION (http://www.melies.org) and will award the Méliès d'argent to the best European short film at the festival. This film will then in turn compete for the Méliés d'or.

Ramaskrik was one of the best experiences I've had as a filmmaker. The festival was super communicative, made me feel very safe and welcome, cozy location and great audience. It was a real privilege for my short film Daughter to have its world premiere there. Will absolutely submit again and attend. Highly recommend. Thanks Ramaskrik!!!

Thanks! It was an absolute honour to host the world premiere of Daughter!

  • From submission to selection communication is fantastic, and they are very clear about the kind of films they're after. A jam-packed programme and a team that are extremely enthusiastic - it's what you want! We were so happy to have POCKETMAN screen there in 2024.

  • I had the pleasure of having my short Taste in Music screened at the festival, which I also attended. I was welcomed warmly, invited to introduce my film and had the opportunity to talk to a lot of festival goers and other industry professionals. Great atmosphere with an audience that really understands the genre. My film had a really good reception and I was pleased to be answering questions about it after each showing. I'll be back!

I had a fantastic time at the Ramaskrik Festival this year and was thrilled to have my short film, Dear Elf on the Shelf, screened at such a warm and welcoming event. The festival in Oppdal has a great, laid-back vibe, perfect for both fans and creators alike.

Watching Terrifier 3 was a true highlight—an intense experience that left me with goosebumps! Ramaskrik is a wonderfully organized festival in a beautiful setting, and I’m already looking forward to seeing what’s in store for next year.
