Based in Nashville, TN, filmmaker Phynley Joel graduated from Lipscomb University in 2022 with a BFA in film production. An exciting launch into the film world began with Phyn holding multiple positions on feature films including executive producers assistant to Nicole Kidman on the newly released Amazon/Blossom Films original, "Holland." She has also had the privilege of directing multiple short films and music videos, as well as an environmental documentary that took her to Norway, Italy and the Vatican. In 2025 she completed her fourth short film titled, "Henry and the Horrible Thing."
A dual-citizen of the US and New Zealand, Phynley grew up amidst the Nashville music industry, immersed in the arts. This lifelong insight shaped her ability as a young filmmaker to connect with deep human themes and to tell stories with a whimsical edge. This ability earned her the ‘Tennessee Next Generation Filmmaker Award’ at the Nashville Film Festival (2021) with her short film “Muggy,” and an additional NFF screening of “The Trobie” in 2022, alongside numerous other film festival screenings across the world.
Above all, Phynley is passionate about creating collaborative environments where people feel welcome and loved throughout the filmmaking process. She believes that these settings create not only better art but better artists.
