Philip Hain is an Austrian filmmaker and the creator of the “Schoolworld Trilogy” - a series of atmospheric mystery and sci-fi films centered around groups of children whose actions subtly influence reality. His work blends elements of magic, memory, and real-world courage, focusing on friendship, imagination, and the power of unity.
Originally trained as a dancer, Hain brings a strong sense of movement, rhythm, and physical storytelling into his filmmaking. His passion for film began at the age of 16, inspired by fantasy, horror, and science fiction. He developed his visual sensibility early on, refining his craft through independent study, practical experience, and years of hands-on work.
As the youngest member of a local amateur film club, he participated in international competitions in the early 1990s, including events in Malta, New York, and Graz, where his work received recognition for its visual imagination and camera instinct. In 1994, he received a written jury evaluation from the Rochester International Film Festival (USA), highlighting his strong visual detail and cinematic awareness at a young age.
From 1995, he worked for six years in a cinema, rising from cashier to projectionist, gaining insight into film presentation and audience perception. He later built a successful career in dance before returning to filmmaking in 2023, combining movement and storytelling into a visually driven approach.
His recent short films, "The Magical Return" and "Mystery of the Abduction", merge childhood adventure with suspense and speculative elements, forming the foundation of his Schoolworld universe.
With "The Last Exit", Hain expands into darker, more mature territory - a visually driven post-apocalyptic mystery exploring fear, protection, and moral ambiguity.
He is currently developing the short film "The Hidden Dimension", continuing his exploration of child-centered storytelling and the hidden structures of reality.
