Peter Kyawminsoe Yap, born in Rangoon, Burma (now Yangon, Myanmar), is a distinguished Asian American indie filmmaker and music producer. His groundbreaking international festival award-winning charity film, Myittar, aka Unbroken Ties (2024), marked a historic collaboration between the U.S. and Myanmar. This poignant coming-of-age story follows an orphan’s inspiring journey to find belonging in a new home. The film received a Best Picture nomination at the 67th Myanmar Academy Awards, recognizing excellence in Myanmar’s film industry.
Beyond this achievement, Mr. Yap produced and served as executive producer for the acclaimed short film Family Fiction (2022), which earned nominations at over eight international film festivals, including a win at the Shenzhen International Film Festival. This thought-provoking film delves into the fractures within families, exploring the emotional toll of infidelity and divorce.
