The Pearl International Film Festival has been described as one of the biggest film events in Uganda. PIFF is a non-governmental organization established in 2011 to develop and promote film and other cultural industries as catalyst for the regional social and economic growth. The first edition of PIFF happened at the National Theatre and still holds other edition every November. The 9th Annual PIFF will take place in Kampala November, 2019.PIFF is open to African and international submissions.

Each category receives an award and a certificate with different prizes from our sponsors.

PIFF accepts films and videos made by and/or about people around the world.
– Films should preferably depict positive or realistic images.

– Films can be any genre; drama, comedy, horror, adventure, animation, romance, science fiction, experimental, etc.

PIFF accepts features and shorts; narratives and documentaries. All submissions must be in English or have English subtitles.

– PIFF will accept submissions of works in progress. However, your submission must be complete enough for us to follow the storyline and be able to make a decision. If you expect your final version to be 90 minutes, a 45-minute rough cut is probably not acceptable.
Also, whenever possible, you should provide an on-screen description of missing scenes. The final version of your film is expected to be ready no later than September 10, 2019.

  • We won Best Film for. our movie #JustNotMarried, it was a thing of joy, we heard the audience reactions and we were so overwhelmed. The communication was smooth, the organisers are so friendly, easy to talk to. Looking forward to screening another film and going to Uganda.

What film festival selects your film, doesn’t add it to the program, and gives zero correspondence with the filmmaker? The closest I got to speaking with someone was via Facebook and when I asked “why isn’t my film listed in your program” their answer was to block me from their Facebook page. It was nice I got a selection but what’s the point really? From pics the festival actually looked good and I would have been happy to be part of. I can deal with reasons but running and hiding is such a child way to deal with things. Really? Hopefully they get their act together because there is some potential.
