Everyone calls me "Paul" because I grew up between Bathgate Avenue in the Bronx and Westchester County, New York. A multilingual transactional lawyer, I am a Vietnam-Era Veteran, and proud to have served in the US Army.
From the streets of the Bronx to the corridors of international law and the trenches of military history, my life has been defined by a passion for rhythm, culture, and the pursuit of untold human stories.
The Foundations: New York & Bologna:
Everyone calls me "Paul" because I grew up between Bathgate Avenue in the Bronx and Westchester County, New York. I was born in Bologna, Italy, to an American-born father and an Italian mother. Growing up in New York blessed me with a natural ear for languages; you could hear the sounds of the whole world on any given day.
I refined my French with family friends who had married French women, picked up Spanish to impress a pretty Cuban girl, and am still dedicated to mastering German, sooner or later.
Music was my first language. I began playing the piano at age three, thanks to my Aunt Velia, who recognized my talent and funded my first lessons.
By age five, I switched to the piano accordion. My father, Guido Paracchini, owned a beauty salon on the Boston Post Road in Larchmont, New York, which he purchased from a Lebanese gentleman named George, whose posh atelier on the Grand Concourse catered to Broadway stars and Rockette dancers. George and his wife Ethel remained lifelong family friends until my father’s untimely passing in 1958 while I was still in grammar school.
My mother later remarried a wonderful man, Dominic Iezzi, who saw me through high school at Iona Prep in New Rochelle, New York, under the guidance of the Christian Brothers of Ireland. From there, I attended The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, earning a BA in International Relations and Romance Languages, alongside a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
A Milestone at Fort Sill: I will never forget January 23, 1973.
While on active duty for training, A group of young officers and I were gathered at the Officers' Club, drinking beers and watching the television, when President Nixon announced the end of the Vietnam War. A roar of "hurrahs" rocked the room as the club came alive. On the screen, we watched U.S. soldiers scrambling atop a building in Saigon to climb into a hovering helicopter flying them to safety. It was a historic, visual crescendo that etched itself permanently into my memory. Had Nixon resigned that day, before the shadow of the Watergate scandal broke his presidency, history would remember him very differently.
Global Counsel & The Corridors of Power: After graduating from Johns Hopkins, nostalgia for my extended family drew me back to Italy, where I earned my law degree from Bologna University Law School.
Being bilingual immediately opened doors, launching my career as an In-House Transactional Counsel for the Milan Affiliate of General Electric Corp. (Compagnia Generale di Elettricità SpA) with offices in Via Bergognone 34.
I built a life of law and globetrotting between Europe and the United States, later specializing further at Columbia University's School of Foreign and Comparative Law and returning to the University of Bologna for corporate counsel specialization.
My legal work in London eventually connected me with a prestigious British organization based in Abu Dhabi with direct ties to the ruling Families. Long before the UAE became the global hub it is today, they invited me to chair their International Business Transactions courses, teaching local entrepreneurs and government Officials how to negotiate and trade with Western nations, including Italy.
A Cinematic Eye & Artistic Legacy: Storytelling requires a vivid visual sense, a gift I inherited from my father through my lifelong passion for photography. My archives contain over 8,000 photographs capturing the texture, light, and people of the places I have traveled—from San Francisco, San Diego, and Ohio to London, the British Midlands, Greece, Cyprus, Israel, the Persian Gulf, and the length of Italy from Elba to Sardinia and Sicily.Today, all these threads—my military background, my understanding of political and legal strategy, and my cross-cultural perspective—converge in my writing.
For over a decade, I have maintained my cultural blog, Reflections on Italy (www.reflectionsonitaly.blog), and my YouTube music channel, "Paul, The Jazz Accordionist" (@paulparacchini2189), where I perform jazz classics from Irving Berlin to The Beatles.
My flagship cinematic project is a dual-market historical military thriller, "Italy's 'Audie Murphy' & Flying 'El-Cid' was a Fascist 'White-Fly'" (developed in Italian as "Il soldato italiano più decorato di tutti i tempi è una 'mosca-bianca' del Fascismo"). It is a project born from an entire lifetime of living between two worlds and honoring the complex, tragic truth of history.
