Whether capturing the collapse of local news or the quiet resilience of a ballerina fleeing war, her stories live at the intersection of political urgency and human intimacy.
Born in Romania, Oana Liana Martisca is a filmmaker, storyteller, and multidisciplinary artist who recently moved to Miami. She is a graduate student at the University of Miami, where she continues to explore the intersections of visual storytelling, journalism, and documentary filmmaking.
Her work is deeply influenced by her experiences traveling and living across Europe and South America. She has immersed herself in different cultures, honing her linguistic skills among native speakers and expanding her understanding of identity, migration, and human connection. Through her lens, she examines themes of displacement, cross-cultural interactions, and the evolving concept of belonging in an era of global interconnectedness.
Inspired by the immersive, human-centered journalism of Ryszard Kapuściński and the bold cinematic approach of Werner Herzog, Oana’s work blends the observational with the personal, capturing the nuances of communities in transition. Her documentaries strive to bring greater awareness to cultural diversity, the impact of migration, and the resilience of individuals navigating new realities.
Her storytelling approach is deeply rooted in authenticity, emphasizing long-form, slow journalism that allows subjects to reveal their truths over time. She believes in the power of film to preserve disappearing narratives, amplify underrepresented voices, and challenge conventional perspectives on history and identity.
As she continues to refine her craft, she remains committed to uncovering meaningful stories that foster deeper human connections and cultural understanding.
