Youth Film Festival

The first year of the Northern Lens Youth Film Festival took place on 16th June 2024 at the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen. It was hosted as part of the Light the Blue Festival, by Station House Media Unit, in partnership with Aberdeen Performing Arts, with support from the Sean Connery Foundation to celebrate Scottish youth filmmaking.

We will announce the dates for the second year of the festival in Spring 2025.

If you are planning to submit a film for the 2025 Festival please read the information below.

Filmmakers under 25 years of age are invited to submit films made in Scotland within the past 2 years and up to 10 minutes length. Fiction, documentary, and experimental/moving image submissions welcome.

With screenings aimed at audiences aged 12 - 25, submitted films should be suitable for all prospective members of the audience.

If you choose to submit a film to Northern Lens Youth Film Festival, you are agreeing to the following Terms & Conditions. If the below Terms & Conditions are not met it will result in the immediate disqualification of your entry.

1. The submitted film must be made by young people under the age of 25 years old. (People born after January 1st 1999)
2. All films must be under 10 minutes in length, including any credits and titles.
3. Entries must be made in the name of the film’s Director.
4. The film must have been made in Scotland, by Scottish residents, within the last 2 years. (Do not submit films made before April 1st 2023)
5. If a submission is part of the Official Selection you agree to your film and participation being subject to use in marketing and social media materials.
6. It is the filmmaker’s responsibility to obtain all copyright licensing or rights for any materials used in their film.
7. The decision made for both the Official Selection and Awards, made by the Northern Lens Youth Panel, is final and not negotiable.
8. Incorrectly completed forms, or false information, will result in the submission being disqualified.
