The California Film Festival (CFF) is the premier celebration of regional and international cinema in the Golden State. The festival provides LIVE, televised, and online, year-round events, as featured on our prestigious California Film Channel.

CFF offers a unique, high-profile screening environment, perfect for celebrating the best in independent cinema to an ever-expanding global audience. CFF is a 21st-century film experience reaching new audiences in new and exciting ways with a diverse programming slate.

Featuring emerging talent as well as legendary artists, CFF has a track record of launching new films and creating buzz. The California Film Foundation has welcomed hundreds of filmmakers and guests including luminaries like Ben Vereen (Roots), John Daly (Platoon), Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs), Timothy Bottoms (The Last Picture Show), Stefon Fengmire (Jurrasic Park, Eregon), Jeffrey Weissman (Back To the Future II, Pale Rider), Deon Taylor (Fatale, Traffik) and many more.

In conjunction with the California Film Channel and the California Film Foundation, this year celebrating our 30th anniversary, the California Film Festival is a perfect way to attract interest and excitement in your cinematic work.

Awards: acknowledgments will be awarded at the festival in all categories of entry plus special categories including cinematography, actors, screenplay and more.

Please read these guidelines carefully and follow all directions for submission.

General guidelines for all films: READ CAREFULLY:

1) Types and Categories of Entry:
There are three main "types" of entry for this festival, short-form (under 20 minutes total running time), long-form (20 minutes to an hour total running time), and features, (over one hour total running time), plus special Showcases.

All styles and genres of film will be accepted for review. We appreciate and encourage new forms, formats and diverse voices from around the world. Animation, Live action, documentary and ethnic programmers are all encouraged to submit.

2) Eligibility Requirements:
Only films that have not previously played with our festival are eligible for entry. Employees and board members are prohibited from entering. By acceptance of these rules and submission to our festival, you certify that you have the sole legal authority to enter into this agreement.

3) Format Requirements:
Please submit a preview copy of your film via FilmFreeway or another acceptable online submission engine. Sound must be 2 channel mono or stereo, 48 hz 16 bit. If accepted, you will be contacted to provide a final screening copy on one of the accepted formats.
All final exhibition prints must be submitted on one of the following formats: HD online password-protected Vimeo or an MPEG4 delivered via dropbox.

4) Disclaimer:
The festival holds no responsibility for lost media or promotional items.

5) By submitting you authorize the California International Film Festival and/or its designees to use your film's content (in part or whole) to advertise, promote and exhibit via Digital Media, TV, Radio and/or theatrical means for one year after acceptance. Understand this IS a year-round televised film festival and your submission, while NOT authorizing exclusivity, does authorize the festival to use your film. As producer and legal owner of the above content, you agree to allow CFF to screen your film, whole or in part, at any time of our choosing online, on TV, or in a live showcase. Further, you accept full legal responsibility for program content for distribution by California International Film Festival, The California Film Channel, and/or it's designees. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the CFF, California Film Channel, California Film Foundation, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from liability or legal fees and expenses incurred as a result of distributing/exhibiting this program. You warrant and represent that the program does not contain:
A) Any material requiring union residual, or other payment including but not limited to talent and crew unless those payments have been received in full or waived;
B) Any material that is slanderous, libelous or made unlawful by a law instituted by a governmental body;
C) Any material that is copyrighted or subject to ownership or royalty rights without necessary releases, licenses or other permission.

6) You agree to hold harmless CFF, California Film channel and any of its designees for any loss or theft of your film's content.
