The NOOSA International Surfilm Festival (NISFF) is one of Australia’s most distinctive surf and ocean film gatherings — set in the iconic coastal town of Noosa.

We curate bold, original surf films from around the world — shorts and features that celebrate surf culture, cinematic craft and the power of ocean storytelling.

In 2026, we expand beyond surf with a dedicated Ocean Films category, welcoming compelling ocean-based stories spanning marine conservation, coastal communities, ocean adventure and environmental impact.

New for 2026: The Waves of Change Award, honouring exceptional filmmaking that advances awareness and protection of our oceans and coastal ecosystems.

NISFF prioritises premieres and gives strong preference to Global, Australian and Queensland Premieres.

Selected films screen to a highly engaged surf and ocean-loving audience — alongside filmmakers, industry guests and respected judges including Dick Hoole, Tim Baker, Spencer Frost, Lauren Hill, Jolyon Hoff and Tom Wegener.

We are also proud to present GromShorts Film Fest, our youth initiative showcasing filmmakers aged 18 and under. GromShorts has its own dedicated FilmFreeway page for submissions: https://filmfreeway.com/GromshortsFilmFest

NISFF is more than a screening platform. It’s connection. Conversation. Culture.

A filmmaker-focused environment with industry panels, live events and meaningful audience engagement.

If your film carries salt, story and cinematic substance — we invite you to submit.

A. GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS NISFF

The Noosa International Surfilm Festival (NISFF) invites bold, high-quality surf and ocean-based films from filmmakers around the world.

We welcome narrative films, documentaries, shorts, features, animations and experimental works that explore surf culture, ocean environments, coastal communities, marine conservation, ocean adventure and related themes.

Films should demonstrate strong storytelling, cinematic craft and a clear connection to surf and/or ocean subject matter. We embrace fresh creative approaches, emerging voices and distinctive artistic styles — from beautifully shot classics to boundary-pushing, genre-defying works.

NISFF presents a curated program. Selection is competitive and based on artistic merit, originality, production quality and thematic relevance. We prioritise premieres and give preference to World, International, Australian and Queensland Premieres.

If your film carries authenticity, creativity and a genuine connection to the sea — we encourage you to submit.

Submissions must be recent works, completed after July 1st, 2023.

This was a wonderful festival to be a part of. It's like being a part of an extended family. They really look after the filmmakers that come, which is echo'd down the line to the patrons. A really great festival, look forward to many to come.
