Noah Michael Smith (They/Them) is a queer composer, visual artist and performer, based in Port Angeles, Washington. Noah continues to focus on
lyrical quality and expression in their projects, always searching for new combinations of
texture and emotion. Noah conducts the Peninsula Queer Xhoir, which is a singer's group pursuing the activity of radical listening, sonic explorations and vocal improvisation, and has performed in Clown Car, and JFFA’s summer music festival.
Noah's collaborations with Madrid-based producer Daniel Van Lion are played on Radio
Alhara. Noah directed and produced a music video released by Spanish record label
Menta. Noah scored and produced sound for Zoom Zoom Particle Flambée, which is an
experimental film directed by France Rreally currently showing at film festivals
nationwide, as well as Mother’s Arm, which is a queer horror movie currently showing at
festivals nationwide. Noah was recently commissioned to compose Viriditas, which is a
choral work for Hildegard Von Bingen’s saint’s day- a piece which utilizes aleatoric
practices and translates plant biodata into electronic music alongside musical practices
which cause a different result each time the piece is performed.
Noah’s work Night Sweats is commissioned by the New Haven Mayor’s Task Force on AIDS, the New Haven Pride Center. and the Guardian Health Association, is a work which bridges poetry, music, visual arts, and body movement “It is a single, richly layered interpretation that demands multiple views, new layers of meaning exposed each time.” -Arts Council of Greater New Haven.
