Art is the language of the mind.
My full name is Alberto Nicolás Sánchez Márquez. I was born on December 15, 2002, in the city of Puebla, Mexico. I was raised alongside my only brother, Sebastián—nine years older than me—by our parents, Alberto Sánchez and Edith Márquez, both musicians. My father is a professional guitarist, and my mother is a nationally recognized singer.
I received a traditional education up until adolescence, but from a young age, I was deeply drawn to drawing and cinema—two activities I enjoyed the most.
When I was 13, a film changed my life forever: Arrival, by Denis Villeneuve. Walking out of the theater, I knew with certainty that I wanted to dedicate my life to achieving, through my own work, what that film had achieved in me.
Not long after, having gained knowledge in screenwriting, I wrote and created the storyboard for my first short film, Atroz.
At the age of 21, as my studies progressed, the project began to take shape. After a period of searching, we managed to put together a production team—partly made up of my family—to bring this completely independent project to life. My cousin, José Márquez, played the lead role, and my brother played the antagonist.
María del Carmen Marcos, sister of my mother’s husband and a professional producer, was instrumental in laying the foundation for the team that made Atroz possible.
Now, at 22, I’m focused on giving the short film the exposure it deserves, continuing my studies in philosophy, and writing my first feature film, which is still untitled.
