I am a writer, freelance journalist and documentary filmmaker interested in stories focussing on the environment, gender equality, education and distributive justice. Although I am based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, I work primarily in sub-Saharan Africa (Malawi, South Africa, Rwanda and South Sudan).
I often work with photographer Julia Gunther. In 2018, we were co-recipients of the IWMF Reporting Grants For Women Stories (together with Julia Gunther) for our project Fish-For-Sex, which examined the skewed gender dynamics of the inland fisheries industry in southern Malawi. In 2024, we received a Deep Dives Oceans and Fisheries Reporting Grant from the Pulitzer Center for our work on the island of Tristan Da Cunha, where we were based for 10 months.
In a previous life, I was an award-winning copy writer (Cannes Lion, Webby's D&AD, ADC, Eurobest and Lovie).
