Born in Queens, NY to Trinidadian parents, Nia Primus has had a love for film & music from young.
Primus spent her early childhood in Trinidad, eventually relocating to Brooklyn, and finally Pennsylvania. She graduated from Shippensburg University with a B.A. in English. During her senior year, she founded production company, Chill Room Records.
Primus started writing short stories as a child, which she continued to nurture into her college years. After graduation, she began taking acting classes under the mentorship of Sandra Turner. This led to a consultation with Director Todd Haynes, which further inspired her own creative development.
After directing music videos for herself and other artists, she eventually wrote and directed her first short film, 'City Sway.'
