Joshy Mathew has been known as a director who stays on the line of good cinema. In the earlier part of his career he assisted renowned director and writer P. Padmarajan, who made some landmark motion pictures in Malayalam cinema. Mr. Joshy assisted P. Padmarajan from “Parannu Parannu Parannu” (1984) until his last movie “Njan Gandharvan”(1991).
Joshy Mathew directed his first independent feature film Nakshathrakoodaram” in 1992. “Nakshathrakoodaram” bagged the ‘Film Critics award’ that year for the best childrens feature film. He made his second feature film in 1993 “Oru Kadankatha Pole” . “Rajadhani” released in 1994 was his next directorial venture, followed by “Man of the Match” , released in 1996. “Patham Nilayile Theevandi” (“Train in the Tenth Floor”) is his 5th film. This film won the FIPRESCI award (International Jury Award) in IFFK 2009, Kerala, also the Kerala State Film Award for best sound mixing and 3 awards from Kerala Film Critics Association, including best actor and Kerala Film Producer’s Award for Editing.In 2012 he won the NATIONAL AWARD for the best enviormental film, from Govt of India, for the film ’BLACK FOREST’. This film also won Kerala State film awards for the best children’s film and also Kerala film Critics awards for best enviormental film and also the best children’s film.This film was shown in Moscow film festival,Ladak festival, calcutta festival, New Delhi festival, Jaipur festival, Hydrabad festival, Iffk festival and so many festivals, Worldwide. Joshy Mathew was a board member of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation. He was also in the jury panel of Television Award Committee of Chalachithra Academy and also a jury member of Kerela State Sangeetha Natak Academy Drama Festival. He is the Director of “Nav yug” childrens theatre and movie village in Kottayam, Kerala.
