"A mind is like a parachute. It doesn't work if it's not open." (Frank Zappa)
Ever since I was a child, I've been an enormous film fanatic. It's the one (not the only one) great thing I thank my parents for: my love for movies. They were my escape from a world where I never really fit in. After finishing high school, I was kind of pushed into linguistics studies at university. I like words, and language, and how it works, but I didn't like studying other people's work, I wanted to create work of my own. After two years of wandering around, I ended up in HRITCS film school in Brussels and stayed there for seven years. I graduated as a screenwriter, and then decided to spend three more years studying animated film technique - a choice I made after seeing Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" in film theater. It blew me away. Alas, as I well knew when I chose an art/film study: doing your own thing in (animated) movies in Belgium (or anywhere else) doesn't make you rich. But I have never been interested in making money, I was and am interested in making movies, MY movies. Small ones, but they're completely mine. Not everyone can say that.
