He started working as an Asst. Director with Directors like Tanuja Chandra, Dibakar Banerjee, and many others. In the year 2008 he started his company called “Champaran Talkies”, with office in Mumbai. His first documentary “Bring Back Bihar - Moment of Awakening” was screened at various places in India and abroad. The documentary created a huge furore and shook minds of several people at local and at international level. Govt. of Bihar organized screenings of his film.
He directed “Deswa” in 2012 which was selected at Indian Panorama section of International Film Festival of India. 2012 was 50th year of Bhojpuri Cinema. “Deswa” went on to get selected at National and International Film Festivals like International Film Festival of South Asia, Darpan Film Festival, Singapore, South Asian Film Festival, Goa, Habitat World Film Festival, New Delhi, Film Festival at IIM - Ahmedabad, Montage Film Festival.
His second film “Mithila Makhaan” in 2015 became the first film to win First even National Award for Maithili Language film.
Nitin Chandra is also responsible for creating new kind of content in languages of Bihar through his YouTube channel “Bejod. His last film is “Kariyatthi” was release in May 2023. Now he has directed “Kariyatthi” which is based on skin color discrimination and female foetecide.
