Welcome to the fifth annual New York Mobile Film Festival.

The NYMFF has been created to showcase, nurture, and support the emerging creative filmmaker that uses the latest technology available from a mobile device (Smartphone, iPad, GoPro or Drone) to create stories in a cinematic way.

We are looking for narrative and documentaries in a short form as well as sketches, skits, Vlogs, and music videos. 10 min maximum.

We want to show to the world that now more than ever, filmmakers are in control of their own stories and the new mobile technology catapults the filmmaker from concept to completion without waiting for a major investor or a network to approve their work. Filmmakers are now in full control.

Rules & Terms

All films submitted must be shot in a mobile device, in other words, a mobile phone, drones, GoPro cameras, and tablets. Movies that include shots from an SLR camera will not be accepted.

You have to send behind-the-scenes material such as photos or video

All films submitted in a language other than English must have English subtitles.

SUBMISSIONS:

All films submitted must have a short description and the answer to the following questions:

1- With which mobile device did you record your short film?
2- Brand of the device with which you recorded your short film?
3- In how many days did you make the short film? (Includes preproduction, production, and post-production)

The films submitted should be recorded and edited no lesser than 720 HD format, but we recommend 1080 HD. The length of the films should be no shorter than 1 minute and no longer than 10 minutes.

Films must have been produced between January , 2024, and May 2025.

We are only accepting online submissions through FilmFreeway. WE WILL NOT ACCEPT DVD's so please do not send them as they will NOT BE VIEWED.

Submitting your short films does not guarantee screening or acceptance. A notification of acceptance will be sent by written email from the New York Mobile Film Festival. The submission fee is non-refundable.

Submissions must have full clearance for all content before submitting it. Any issues that may arise due to the infringement of copyrights is the participant’s responsibility. The New York Mobile Film Festival and its members are not responsible for any infringement of copyrights.

When Submitting to the New York Film Festival participants agree to the reproduction and dissemination of their films for the display and promotion of the festival.

AGE REQUIREMENTS:
Filmmakers must be 14 and older. All filmmakers under the age of 18 must include the contact information for a parent/guardian.

    BAD. No communication from the organiser. I didn't even know the online screening happened. A money grab? Not sure what happened with this one. Not entering again.

    Terrible experience, felt like a scam. I received an email from the festival a month before it's scheduled that date that my film was selected to be a screened in person. I was excited and being a new york filmmaker, it was even more special. But after that initial email from Victor Ibarra, there was zero communication despite my continuous and multiple attempts to reach out on all their platforms. Even the phone number provided by them was never reachable. Until eventually the festival date came and went and nothing happened. I understand that unfortunate delays or issues can spring up when organising an indie film festival, but nothing justifies the complete lack of communication like this. As filmmakers we take a lot of pride in film festivals and a selection makes a world of a difference, so to be treated so careless with an utter disregard is inexcusable. I still haven't received any update from the festival with any kind of explanation about what happened or went wrong. I have written multiple emails and even DM'd on instagram -- still nothing. Hoping that someone reads it here and offers an answer.
