Montse Villegas is a producer, director, screenwriter, photographer, editor and concept designer from Mexico City. She studied a Bachelor Degree in Communication at the Universidad Iberoamericana and was part of the International Student Film Festival KINOKI for three editions (Programming Department), having been sub-coordinator of logistics for one year.
She received the awards of “Best Female Director” at the Vesuvius International Film Fest (August 2022), "Best Student Director" at the Shanghai Short Film Festival (October 2022) and "Best Director of Student Film" at the Brazil International Monthly Independent Film Festival (April 2024) with her student short film “In the Right Place”, which was selected in 39 different festivals and was granted 16 awards and different nominations. She was also part of the 2023 Shortlist of the Young Director Award in Cannes on the Film School category.
She received an Honorable Mention in the Screenplay Competition of the SHORTS MEXICO Film Festival with her script "Traces of Light" (2024) and won the MIC YELLOW LAB co-production award of the MICMXIFF (2025) to create this project.
With her stories, she seeks to give a light to issues which shouldn’t be overlooked, hoping to provoke dialogue and reflection in others.
