If your parent is a good one, enjoy life to the fullest with them before they keel over, their soul-less body containers shriveled up, exploded, or burnt to a crisp.

Otherwise you have nothing left but unending guilt, rage, and regret.

Be on the opposite side of that sick, sad fence, and have the great life while s/he's/they're still alive.
