Mohsen Nabavi is an Iranian-Canadian filmmaker and screenwriter with a background in dramatic literature and cinema. He began his professional journey in 2005 and has since worked across different roles, including writing, directing, and acting. He has also served as a juror at several international short film festivals.
His work leans toward minimalist, character-driven storytelling, often exploring moral ambiguity, silence, and absence. Rather than offering direct answers, his films tend to unfold gradually, allowing space for the audience to engage with the characters’ inner conflicts. Films such as Phoenix and The Last Wave reflect this approach.
Influenced by filmmakers like Abbas Kiarostami and Nuri Bilge Ceylan, as well as classical Persian literature and Eastern philosophy, his work seeks to connect these sensibilities with contemporary life creating films that resonate beyond their immediate narrative.
