Misagh Karimi, born on July 26, 2000, is a master's student in cinema at Tehran University of Art. He is a graduate of the Iranian Youth Cinema Society's filmmaking course and has directed four short narrative films during various filmmaking workshops held by the society, two of which he also wrote. Additionally, he has worked as an assistant director on documentary, television, and short film projects.
His passion for cinema began in early high school, where he experimented and learned about filmmaking by creating several short films. His short film "Doubt" in which he was both writer and actor, participated in several student festivals in Iran, earning him the Best Screenplay and Best Actor awards at the Binesh and Ebne Sina festivals. Furthermore, Misagh Karimi received a Special Talent Award for his direction of the short film "The Last Bus" produced by the Iranian Youth Cinema Society, at the Ghoghnous Festival. His first professional short film, "The Perfect Past" was completed in late 2024.
His cinematic interests encompass classic and modern works, including those by Alfred Hitchcock, Ingmar Bergman, Akira Kurosawa, and Michelangelo Antonioni. However, he has been most influenced in recent years by contemporary filmmakers such as Nuri Bilge Ceylan and Hirokazu Kore-eda.
