Mirella Muroni was born and raised in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She was born to a Caribbean mother and an Italian father. In 1995 she was graduated from the Dutch Film and Television Academy where she studied scriptwriting and directing for fiction.
Before graduation she completed 3 shorts:
1989 Sweet child of mine
1992 The Hannabird (De Hannavogel)
1993 Girl Mill Lover (Meisje Molen Minnaar)
In 1995 she graduated Film Academy with the short: Time to go (Tijd van Gaan)
The short I AM (IK BEN) was completed in November 2018 and is her post graduate debut film.
After graduating from Film Academy Mirella wrote and directed 4 theatre plays. She developed the television serie Nostro Destino and years later used this material to write the novel Nostro Destino. She also wrote two youth books.
From 2016 to 2017 she studied abstract, poetic and intuitive storytelling. During this year she was supported by The Professional Artist Stipendium from The Amsterdam Art Fund. Film poem I AM is an outcome of this year.
