Luis Miguel Ramírez, also known as Miguel St. Michael is an award winning Mexican-American filmmaker and singer songwriter. Ramírez has over 20 years of filmmaking experience. His work has been featured on numerous news outlets including CNN, Huffington Post, Queerty, and Shangay among other publications.
He also boasts a rich musical lineage as the former frontman of the acclaimed Latin Alternative band Son de Rey and recently embarked on his solo career under the moniker Miguel St. Michael, releasing his debut album “Entre Luces,” which was produced by Grammy Winner Fabian Hernandez.
In his work, Ramírez celebrates the richness of his roots while embracing the universal quest for belonging and enlightenment as a queer Mexican-American artist. His passion for filmmaking serves as a complementary medium to his music, allowing him to delve deeper into the emotional landscapes and visual imagery that accompany his lyrical composition.
In March 2024 his cumbia short film music video ‘Guapito, Divino’ earned the Best Music Video Award at the Texas Short Film Festival in Austin and was an official selection for Cine Las Americas.
Ramírez’s lyrical narratives and filmwork resonate with poignant reflections on hardship, nostalgia, sexuality, spirituality and resilience, offering a soul-stirring glimpse into the profound journey of self-discovery and empowerment.
He holds two bachelors degrees from the University of Texas at Austin in Spanish Language Teaching and Broadcast news, and a Master's Degree in Spanish Language and Culture from La Universidad de Salamanca.
