MIGUEL CADILHE
born 26th April 1973 in Porto, Portugal
Completed Management degree in 1996 at Universidade Católica Portuguesa – Porto.
Completed The Art & Technique of Filmmaking degree in 1998, at the London International Film School. Produced and directed the short film “Are you wearing yours?” as thesis for the London International Film School – the film was in competition at Fantasporto in 1999.
Completed Master of Arts in Film and Television Studies in 2001, at Westminster University – London.
In 2002 created the production company Filbox where has produced and directed several contents for cinema, television, mobile TV, music videos, live events, commercials, etc.
In 2005 produced the feature film “Espelho Mágico” by Manoel de Oliveira, with world premiere at the Venice Film Festival 2005. The film was present at various other festivals and won the Best Photography Award at the Huelva Film Festival.
In 2006 produced the feature film “Belle Toujours” (Portuguese and French co-production) and the feature film “O Improvável Não É Impossível”, both by Manoel de Oliveira. “Belle Toujours” had a world premiere at the Venice Film Festival 2006 and participated in various other film festivals. “O Improvável Não É Impossível” had a world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2006.
Between 2007 and 2011 produced and directed the comedy TV series “Telerural” and “Portugal Tal & Qual” for RTP, leaders in prime time. “Telerural” was nominated at the Montecarlo Television Festival; “Portugal Tal & Qual” was nominated at the Festival Iberoamericano de Buenos Aires.
Between 2018 and 2019 directed the TV comedy series “Patrulha da Noite” for RTP. Eduardo Madeira won the Impala Best Actor Award.
Between 2021 and 2022 produced and directed the feature comedy film “Curral de Moinas, os banqueiros do povo”. The film is currently the second highest grossing Portuguese film of all times in Portugal, it has been released in Luxembourg (most spectators on it’s first Sunday), Belgium and Switzerland. The film won in Portugal all cinema categories of the 2022 Quinto Canal Awards: Best Film, Best Director, Best Cast and Best Screenplay; the film was also voted the Best Portuguese Film from 2012 to 2022.
Is a Member of the European Film Academy since 2008.
